When we first arrived in Lesotho almost three years ago, the transition was made immensely easier by Charles, an American Peace Corps Lesotho staff person who had been serving as interim Director until Kathy arrived. He welcomed us with what I have since come to know as his trademark thoughtfulness and humor. He has since become a good friend. He is also very good at what he does, and so was offered a promotion by Peace Corps. This was good for him but bad for us, as he had to move to Pretoria.
Before he parted, the staff threw him a going away party, where they all gathered to wish him well and share stories of their time together.
That is him in the white shirt, laughing at recollections of his time serving in Lesotho.
And later, opening a gift.
We really do have to visit him in Pretoria. We miss him.
