From Ocean to Falls to Mountain Lake

Toward the end of the summer of 2017, Kathy and I embarked on a family-oriented tour of the northeastern U.S. We began by visiting our family in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, where Kathy did a fair amount of kayaking, both in the ocean at Briggs Beach in Little Compton, RI...

... and on the Herring River in Scituate, MA with her mother.

While they rowed the river, I wandered the woods.

And basked in the sun alongside the local wildlife.

Sometimes, the wildlife came to us, as when this turkey strolled through the yard at my mother-in-law's house.

After our time in New England came to an all too rapid end, we head west, stopping in Cooperstown along the way to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame (which was wonderful) and admire the local architecture.

We dined on Lake Otsego.

And I visited the Farmers' Museum.

Along with farm buildings and activities, they had reconstructed an old town. including an old carousel.

An apothecary.

A smithy.

A church.

A broom maker's shop.

The old farm house itself was occupied by folks re-enacting live on an 18th century farm.

We also went for a canoe ride on Lake Otsego.

And, thanks to Kathy, managed to catch a spectacular sunrise on the lake, as well.

While visiting my son and his girlfriend in Rochester, we took a day trip to Niagara Falls.

Where we got up close and personal with the water.

And generally enjoyed the views from both sides of the border.

Kathy even spent a few minutes hanging out with an old friend, Nicola Tesla.

Elvis even made an appearance!

We then headed to visit my mother in Ithaca, at the southern end of Cayuga Lake.

We also wandered the Cornell Plantations, where we took in the views and admired the flora and fauna.

Turtle!

The sculpture garden beckoned us to wander about.

And to relax a bit.

We then visited briefly with some friends in the Catskills.

After that, Kathy headed home and I boarded a train to Lake Placid.

Where I stayed here, at the Golden Arrow.

And I caught some live music.

And kayaked around Mirror Lake.

Taking in the foliage.

And just losing myself in the mount air and fantastic views.

And chatted with the local ducks.

Did I mention the views?
